About the Library

Mission

The mission of the Ellsworth Public Library is to provide quality materials, services, resources and lifelong learning opportunities which fulfill educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the entire community in an atmosphere that is welcoming, respectful, and businesslike.

History

The Ellsworth Public Library was established in May of 1924. A board of trustees was chosen and officers were elected at the June meeting. The library was located at the home of Mrs. Badger, which was on the site of the old Opera House. It was eventually moved to the basement of the building next to the Lord Abstract Company on Main Street. From that location it was moved to the basement of the Community Building in 1963 and in 1975 was moved upstairs into what had been the movie theater, which is the present site.

Parking

Free parking is available in the library parking lot at the back of the building. You may also park on Main Street in front of the library.

Handicap Accessibility

The Ellsworth Library is handicap accessible at the west side of the building. You will also find accessible parking there.
